Unpacking 2025: What We’re Carrying Forward and What We’re Finally Putting Down

As we step into a new year, there’s often pressure to rush forward without looking back. But before we sprint into 2026, it’s worth slowing down long enough to unpack 2025—not to dwell, but to discern.

2025 was a year of contrast for many people. Growth and grief. Progress and pause. Clarity mixed with confusion. Some of you learned powerful lessons about boundaries, relationships, and self-trust. Others survived seasons you never imagined you’d have to navigate.

Here’s the truth I see daily in my therapy and coaching work: what we don’t process, we carry—and it shows up later as burnout, resentment, emotional reactivity, or quiet dissatisfaction.

Unpacking 2025 isn’t about assigning blame or rewriting history. It’s about asking honest questions:

  • What stretched me?

  • What drained me?

  • What did I tolerate that I no longer want to normalize?

  • Where did I grow stronger—even if it didn’t feel that way at the time?

Acceptance plays a key role here. Acceptance doesn’t mean approval; it means acknowledging reality without resistance. When we stop fighting what was, we create space for what can be.

Before you set intentions, goals, or visions, pause and take inventory. Some things from 2025 deserve gratitude. Others deserve closure—both matter.

You don’t need to rush this process. Reflection is not weakness—it’s wisdom.

Reflection Prompt: What is one lesson from 2025 that deserves to inform how you move forward, rather than be forgotten?
