May is Mental Health Awareness Month—Let’s Talk About Protecting Your Peace
May is here, and with it comes a powerful spotlight on mental health awareness. If you're like most people, you've probably come across social media posts or personal stories that shed light on the challenges of mental health. While those narratives are important, I want to shift the focus slightly—to mental wellness and the daily commitment it takes to protect your peace.
We live in a world that often feels loud, overwhelming, and out of control. From bad news headlines to shifting routines and unrealistic expectations, life has a way of throwing us off balance. So how do we quiet the noise? How do we intentionally care for our minds, bodies, and spirits in the middle of it all?
For me, maintaining mental wellness includes simple joys and grounding practices. I love being outside—taking walks with my dog, going for a bike ride, or just sitting quietly in my backyard. Lately, I’ve returned to gardening, and it’s been surprisingly therapeutic. I’m growing tomatoes, cabbage, and lots of peppers!
I also like to think of my wellness routines as the "table legs" of my mental stability. Just like a table needs four sturdy legs to stand, I need consistent habits to keep my wellness table upright. Each leg represents something simple yet powerful:
Reading my devotional
Drinking plenty of water
Taking mindful breaks
Practicing deep breathing
Stretching throughout the day
These small actions create a big impact. They help me reset, reconnect, and realign with what matters most. As we honor Mental Health Awareness Month, I encourage you to explore your own table legs. What daily practices keep you grounded? What helps you protect your peace?
Because at the end of the day, mental wellness isn’t just about getting through the hard times—it’s about building a life that feels good, inside and out.
